Why Swiss Smile Prefers Cerec Dental Crowns

The part of the tooth that is visible, which stands out of the gum and is covered with enamel, is known as the tooth crown. If the natural crown is damaged, a cover or 'cap' is placed over the tooth, known as a dental crown. These crowns restore the damaged tooth to its normal shape, size, and function. Not only can a dental crown make the tooth stronger, but it can also improve the way it looks. When cemented in place, a dental crown fully encases the visible portion of a tooth that lies above the gum line.

When Are Dental Crowns Used?

At Swiss Smile, we use dental crowns for multiple treatment processes. Some of which include:

  • Dental crowns are used to hold a dental bridge in place
  • We use dental crowns for the restoration of a broken tooth
  • Dental crowns are used to cover severely discolored or deformed teeth
  • After placing a dental implant, we use dental crowns to cover it
  • Dental crowns are used to cover and support a tooth with a large filling when there isn't a lot of the tooth left
  • Dental crowns also play a significant role in cosmetic and esthetic procedures

Sometimes it is even necessary to use special crowns for children if we have to save a tooth that has been severely damaged by decay and can't support a filling no more.

Types of Tooth Crowns

Primarily, we use two types of tooth crowns as listed below:

Traditional Crowns

Traditional crowns, also known as caps, are created using various materials like ceramic, metal and resin. The restauration with traditional crowns needs a minimum of two appointments. In the first appointment the dentist grinds the tooth, takes impressions and places a temporary crown until the dental technician lab has the permanent crown ready for placement. In the second appointment, the new crown is cemented.

CEREC

The innovative CEREC technology allows the replacement of damaged dental fillings or crowns in just one session. In the beginning, the prepared tooth is scanned with a special CEREC video camera. Afterward, the CEREC computer processes the image data and creates a digital model of the tooth. In this model, the dentist generates the dental restoration on the computer, which is then transferred to a machining unit that cuts the restoration out of a ceramic block within a few minutes. The computer-controlled 3-D cutting machine works with such precision that the CEREC crown for front teeth and back teeth can be fitted immediately.

CEREC Crowns Over Traditional Crowns

At Swiss Smile, we want to ensure that we provide our patients with the best treatment options and medical devices. Due to this, we have adopted the latest technology like CEREC, which helps us provide better, cheaper and faster treatment to our patients.

Here are some of the reasons why we prefer CEREC tooth crowns for our patients:

Restores the Functions of the Teeth Immediately

Teeth affect multiple activities that we conduct daily, like our smile, how we talk and eating patterns. Traditional crowns that are created in labs require time for the creation process. In the meantime, our patients are provided with a temporary filling due to which they need to be very careful when eating and talking. Moreover, for that duration, you also need to follow a particular diet recommended by our experts to ensure the temporary crown does not fall off. On the other hand, as CEREC crowns are placed on the same day, our patients don't face these issues.

Hence, to provide our patients with advanced technology like CEREC, we have assembled a team of experts who are specially trained and can create restorations that look and feel natural!
