Get A Perfect Smile With Fixed Braces At Swiss Smile
At Swiss Smile, we have multiple treatments that can help straighten crooked teeth and misaligned bite (an underbite or overbite). Our most popular and recommended treatment is fixed braces.
Our team consists of orthodontists that specialize in correcting irregularities of the teeth that can help you with the best type of fixed braces. First, we will conduct a clinical exam, take a digital scan of your teeth and X-rays of your mouth and head. Based on all this data, our orthodontists will create a treatment plan that will correct your smile within the shortest duration.
It is important to note that in some cases, we might recommend adding a removable retainer and rarely recommend surgery in extreme overbite or underbite cases.
Types of Fixed Braces
Traditionally, your orthodontist at Swiss Smile will recommend on these types of fixed braces, depending on your condition:
Metal Braces
These are the most common types of braces. To place these on your teeth, small metal attachments or brackets are bonded to the front of the teeth and then are joined together with metal wires. These metal wires are also known as ‘train-tracks.’ Children can select a color of their choice to make the entire process more enjoyable.
Ceramic Braces
Ceramic braces are an extension of metal braces as the entire procedure is the same. The only notable difference is that instead of metal attachments, the brackets are made of tooth colors or clear ceramic material. These braces are not always recommended as they aren’t very strong and are not suitable for some corrections. However, people choose ceramic braces whenever possible, as they are less visible than metal braces.
Lingual Braces
Lingual braces are fixed on the inner part of the teeth. The reason why these braces are popular is that they are nearly invisible. However, these braces are suitable for only some types of orthodontic corrections. Based on a digital tooth model, all brackets and arches are customized for each patient and cast in gold. Particularly the flat design of the brace ensures comfortable wear.
DAMON-Braces (conventional approach)
These brackets are cemented onto the teeth and firmly connected by a wire. Tooth movement is achieved by guiding the teeth with a light force along the wire into the ideal tooth position. The so-called DAMON technique is a newly tested orthodontic concept: due to an almost absence of friction, it applies less force than any other conventional appliances. This system allows a biologically optimally tolerated tooth movement, offering high patient comfort. On top of it, the treatment time is drastically reduced.
What To Expect While Getting Braces
Fixed braces can cause some amount of discomfort, and we understand that patients look forward to completing the treatment as soon as possible. Here are certain common things you can expect while getting the braces that will help you prepare better for the procedure:
Dental Checkups
During the entire tenure of the treatment, after the fixed braces have been placed, you will need to visit the dental clinic periodically to ensure the healing progress is on track. Our expert will provide an entire plan highlighting when you need to visit the clinic. Moreover, if two or more of the brackets, a band, or the archwire break, you should schedule an appointment with us at the earliest.
How Long Do You Need To Keep The Braces For
The length of the treatment entirely depends on the severity of your condition. However, it typically takes around 8 to 24 months. Moreover, unlike removable braces, fixed braces are stuck to your teeth for the entire duration of your treatment. You shouldn’t try to remove them yourself as you could damage your teeth.
After The Procedure
After your braces are fitted, your teeth might be more sensitive for a couple of days. However, this will soon wear off, and you will quickly become used to it.
Our experts will also recommend purchasing oral care products that will ensure you have all the care you need for your teeth and braces throughout the treatment.
